IRE Conference at Otterbein

This weekend, Otterbein had the honor of hosting the IRE Watchdog Journalism conference for reporters, editors and producers co-sponsored by the central Ohio Society of Professional Journalism chapter.

The two-day event was kicked off with a crash-course in Twitter Mechanics by two OSU professors, and was followed by such sessions as “The art of the interview” by WBNS-Columbus reporter Paul Aker, Washington Post reporter James Grimaldi and author David Cay Johnston. Also, Randy Ludlow and Alan Miller of the Columbus Dipatch shared their experiences with FOIA and Open Records and Mark Horvit from IRE gave great tips on how to get all of your background information from the deep web.

Thanks to IRE for doing your conference at our school, so us journalism students could learn with the professionals!
